Letter from the President

Welcome to our Web site.

My name is Steven Tankanow and I graduated from the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in 1975. I have been a practicing massage therapist for 32 years and I can honestly say that I haven't worked a day in my life because I love what I do! My passion has always been to help people in a healing way and as a massage therapist I get the chance to improve the daily lives of my clients. In 2003 I added the Small Animal Massage Program to bring this same quality of life to the animal world and in 2007 I added the Equine Massage Certification Program. I am also dedicated to bringing massage into the mainstream by training and graduating professional massage practitioners with the highest degree of academic excellence whether they choose to have people or animals as clients, and some of our graduates have both. Quality is defined by the customer, and each customer has his or her own perception of what is real.
As president of Bancroft since 1980, I have had the opportunity to train professional, highly skilled massage therapists. Since its founding in 1950, the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy has become one of the most respected massage schools in the country. We have achieved national recognition as educational leaders in the holistic health field and achieved state and federal accreditation for our massage program. We have promoted massage to the medical community, to the general public, and to other allied health professionals. The success of the school comes from some very basic philosophical principles: integrity, honesty, hard work, ethical principles, a positive attitude, and a charitable heart.

Our graduates and students will tell you that they love the school because the entire Bancroft staff is only interested in our students enjoying their studies and achieving a high degree of proficiency. The "report card" for our school shows that our graduates are professional, well educated and successfully working in the field. Bancroft has indeed become the benchmark of the profession. Our school was founded in April 1950 and this is our 57th year of training massage professionals. I am very proud of our instructors, staff, graduates and current students and look forward to your viewing of our Web site.

If I can be of any assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
